Decorating Small Spaces for Halloween

You can create a spooky atmosphere in an apartment with decorations such as battery-operated candles, seasonal blankets and pillows, and dried flowers to avoid creating clutter. Hanging decorations on the walls, surfaces, and light fixtures can also help you save space while making the perfect eerie ambiance. A few other space-saving and simple apartment Halloween ideas include:

  • Pose a skeleton in a chair, in the window, or on the porch or balcony
  • Trail twinkle lights across bookshelves, mantels, and tables for a soft, spooky glow
  • Hang or tape paper spiders on the walls, bookshelves, and light fixtures
  • Drape black spider webbing on lamps, a mantel, or a table
  • Hang flameless, flickering pillar candles from the ceilings or lights with fishing wire

Apartment Halloween Party Tips

Planning a Halloween party can be a tricky but delightful challenge for apartment dwellers. Start by designating specific areas within your apartment home, like hangout space, a grazing area, and the dance floor, so your guests know where they can and can’t go. To keep guests from entering certain areas, such as your bedroom, use caution tape, spider webs, or an eerie danger sign for a fun and spooky twist.

If you want a dance floor, make sure there’s plenty of space for Monster Mashing by temporarily moving furniture out of the way while still having enough space for seats. Turn the lights down low when it’s time to dance, allowing the twinkle lights to flicker, and dance to the spookiest tunes with your favorite fiends.

Apartment Trick-or-Treat Ideas

As the spookiest day of the year approaches and the moon rises high in the sky, children in costumes of ghoulish monsters and enchanting witches eagerly roam from door to door, echoing the age-old question—trick or treat? Your apartment door presents an excellent opportunity to show off your unique spooky style and personality with DIY decorations!

Here are a few quick, fun ways to enchant your trick-or-treaters this Halloween.

The Vampire’s Castle Door

Hang a large wreath with color accents of scarlet reds, violets, and dark green in the center of the door and suspend a rubber bat from it. You can also paint carved pumpkins a rich red or black with acrylic paint, placing them on either side of your door, with flickering lights inside.

The “Do-Not-Enter” Door

Cut brown craft paper into five- to seven-inch strips, drawing lines of varying thickness with a colored pencil to look like wood grain. Placing a piece of cardboard underneath it to prevent ink from bleeding through onto your table or countertop, use a thick permanent marker to write Keep and Out on two of the strips.

Once you’ve written out your message, drape a piece of black spider webbing over the top of the door and tape the strips at different angles horizontally across. You can make your decorated door look even spookier by adding caution tape and hanging bats, paper spiders, and crows on it.

“The Witch Is In” Door

Nothing says haunted like cobwebs, so try taping pieces of black spider webbing draped over the top of the door to create a witchy theme. Hang bundles of dried flowers or a wreath with dried flowers on your door with twine, along with a small- to medium-sized witch-related sign.

This sign is completely up to you, and it can say things like “The Witch is In,” “Apothecary Open,” “Broom Parking Only,” or any other creative witchy rhyme you come up with. Place pumpkins, flameless pillar candles, and a wooden broomstick outside your door to conjure up the feeling of a haunted witch’s cottage.
